




1. EMPLOYMENT PROSPECTS FOR OFWs
Bahrain has been a major labor-receiving country of OFWs for the past decades. As of 2005, it ranked 10th among the top countries of destination in the world where a total of 4,469 Filipino were employed (POEA deployment report Top Ten Destination fro New Hires).
As of December 2005, there is an estimated stock estimate of 25,898 Filipinos comprising of 69 permanent migrants, 22,457 temporary migrants and 3,372 irregular workers (DFA Report to Congress).
Of the 4,469 new hires for 2005, 55.40% were service workers, 17.89% were production and related workers, 8.86% were professional technical and related workers, 7.82% were sales workers, 8.84% were clerical and related workers, 0.10% were administrative and managerial workers and 1.05% and skills Not Elsewhere Classified.
The Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Bahrain has reported on employment prospects for OFWs in the country in various industries such as hotel/restaurant, construction, medical/health related, operations and maintenance, IT and computers, engineers and planners, telecommunications:
# Hotel/Restaurant Workers : 3,000 target increase
# Construction related workers: 1,500 target increase
# Medical/Health related Workers: 1,500 target increase
# Operation and Maintenance: 1,000 target increase
# Information Technology/Computer Specialists: 600 target increase
# Engineers and Planners: 500 target increase
# Telecommunication Workers: 500 target increase
